Luxora

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Luxora hooked me faster than most mobile RPGs, mostly because it doesn't drown you in menus. You start as a wanderer returning to a half-abandoned city, and the whole game loops around picking up quests, filling out your party, and slowly restoring districts. Combat is turn-based but quick — you can auto-resolve easy fights and take manual control when a boss shows up.

The touch controls are the best part. You drag ability icons onto targets, hold to preview damage, and swipe to reposition characters on the grid. It feels designed for a phone, not squeezed onto one. The progression is generous without being mindless: skill points come at a steady pace, and respeccing is cheap enough that experimenting doesn't feel punishing.

What kept me playing past the tutorial was the writing. Side characters actually remember what you did, and a couple of quests branch in ways I didn't expect. It's not a masterpiece of storytelling, but it treats you like an adult, and the art style — soft watercolors with sharp character portraits — makes even short sessions feel worthwhile.
