Turn-Based or Real-Time on a Phone?
Ask any mobile RPG fan and you'll get a fight about combat. Turn-based lets you think; real-time keeps things tense. On a phone, though, the answer isn't obvious — the touchscreen changes everything.
Turn-based tends to win for pure comfort. You can pause, plan, and play with one hand on a crowded train. Games like the one I've been reviewing lately lean into this, letting you preview outcomes before committing.
Real-time can be thrilling but demands precision your thumbs don't always have. When it works, the controls are simple and forgiving. When it doesn't, you spend more time fighting the interface than the enemies.
My take: turn-based fits mobile better most of the time, but a well-made real-time system with generous input windows can be magic. Test the controls in the first ten minutes — that's usually all it takes to know.
